Availability: 1 in stock

The Stanley No. 5 1/2 Type 11 (manufactured from 1910–1918) is a highly coveted vintage hand plane prized for its heavy, wide sole and advanced frog design. Measuring 15 inches long with a 2 3/8-inch cutter, it bridges the gap between smoothing and jointing work.
Key Features
What makes the Type 11 so sought after by woodworkers and collectors are the specific mechanical patents introduced during this era:
  • Two-Step Frog: Patented in 1902, this provides a much more stable seat for the blade.
  • Machined Frog Adjuster & Rib: Patented in 1910, the machined projections keep the frog perfectly aligned with the sole.
  • Bedrock-Style Alignment: Unlike earlier types, Type 11s have the lateral adjustment lever without a circular logo, and the cutter reads “Stanley Rule & Level”.
  • Hardwoods: Vintage models feature beautiful two-tone Rosewood knobs and totes.
Variations
  • Smooth vs. Corrugated (C): You will find standard smooth-bottom soles and corrugated soles (designed to reduce friction).
  • Condition Impacts Value: Tools with high japanning percentages (original black enamel) and intact, non-cracked Rosewood handles command the highest premiums

This Stanley N0 5 1/2 is in very good condition. It retains about 90% of its original japanning. The tote and handle remain solid and issue free. The blade has the T trademark stamped on it further narrowing down this planes manufacturing date closer to 1909-1912. The body remain clear of any major blemishes or issues. This plane will prove to be a very good solid user.
