STANLEY No 71 ROUTER PLANE. COMPLETE WITH ONE BLADE (1939-1941)

Availability: 1 in stock

The Stanley No. 71 Type 11 is an open-throat router plane manufactured by Stanley from 1939 to 1941. It is the final type listed in major router plane type studies before the line underwent wartime casting modifications.
Key Identifying Features
    • Four-Sided Cutter Grooves: This is the definitive feature of a Type 11. While Type 10 cutters only have grooves on the back, Type 11 cutters feature grooves on all four sides to engage the thumb-nut adjustment mechanism from any direction.
    • Plating: Standard models feature nickel plating over the cast iron base, though very late production runs heading into World War II may have original black japanning due to wartime nickel restrictions.
    • Knobs: Outfitted with two turned hardwood knobs (typically mahogany or stained wood during this late era) mounted to the base via threaded bolts.
    • Included Accessories: A complete vintage kit originally shipped with a removable fence for the bottom, a depth stop, and three cutters (1/4-inch, 1/2-inch, and a V-shaped spear point).

Primary Uses
Woodworkers value the Stanley No. 71 for tasks requiring high precision:
  • Levelling and clearing out the bottoms of dados, grooves, and rabbets.
  • Cleaning up recessed areas for hinge butts and hardware inlay.
  • Creating perfectly uniform depth on half-lap joints
