The vintage Stanley No. 130 is a highly unique “Double-End” or “Twin-Ended” block plane manufactured by the Stanley Rule & Level Co. from 1884 to 1955. Its defining feature is having two separate blade slots (throats): one positioned normally for standard block plane tasks, and another at the extreme front toe.
By switching the direction of the blade, the tool transforms from a regular block plane into a bullnose plane capable of planing deep into tight corners or stopped rabbets.
Technical Specifications
  • Length: 8 inches
  • Cutter Width: 1-5/8 inches

  • Body Details: Features a small wooden front knob (often rosewood or mahogany) and an ergonomically shaped, curved cast-iron body with a black “Japanned” finish.
Collector & Value Insights
  • Price Range: Generally sells between $25 to $95 USD depending on its condition, manufacturing era, and geographic location.
  • Dating & Types: Early models (Late 1800s, Type 1 & 2) typically carry patent stamps like JAN 30, 83 or OCT 23, 83 cast directly into the iron bed. Highly prized models produced during the 1920s feature the famous Stanley “Sweetheart” logo (a heart shape containing the letters “S.W.”) stamped on the cutter.
  • Sister Model (No. 131): Stanley also produced the rare No. 131, which shared the same double-ended design but introduced a fragile mechanical screw-type depth adjustment mechanism and a hooded lever cap
