This is a Stanley #2 Type 8 hand plane (1888-1902). The body of the plane is in excellent condition. No cracks, chips or other blemishes. Both the handle and tote remain crack and chip free. Japaning appears to be over 99% intact.
While inspecting this plane it was observed that the frog and blade are not original to the plane, they appear to be from a later date plane. Best guess blade and frog appear to be from the 1930s. However, that’s not very surprising given the age of the plane and the fact these planes are becoming so difficult to find.
The plane is a beautiful piece for collectors and users alike. With a little care there is absolutely no reason this plane shouldn’t remain in service for another 140 years.
